Applications are now open for the 2026 cohort of Re:Generation

Monument Lab Re:Generation supports 10 teams of two or more individuals working together to create a new or expand an existing public art, public history, or public humanities project.

Each selected Re:Generation team will receive a total of $100,000 in unrestricted funding towards their commemorative campaign or project. The Re:Generation cohort gathers in person twice for multi-day convenings, meets monthly virtually to exchange updates and problem solve collectively, and is provided with project support from Monument Lab staff and subject area experts.

The most successful applicants will have:

  • A clearly defined project with a physical manifestation that makes sense at this budget, on this timeline, and includes public engagement as an essential component.
  • A core team with well-established relationships with each other, clear decision-making structures, and capacity to collaborate with broader constituencies of stakeholders.
  • A vision for their design, built, or digital intervention as a rallying point in building towards broader changes, for example, in land use/land back policy, in labor organizing, in preservation of place or narrative, or in community self-identification and cohesion.

Monument Lab Re:Generation will emphasize the selection of projects with creative representation and interpretation of erased, suppressed, or threatened stories and histories. In acknowledgement that the current context may constrain how and whether projects are resourced, we are explicitly offering ourselves as a resource for strong, public-facing work that might struggle to find or sustain support due to external pressures. We especially encourage projects that have the potential to shift local and regional narratives and policy outcomes.

The first round of Re:Generation 2026 applications close on June 30, 2025. Projects selected to move forward will receive an invitation to submit a more in-depth application thereafter. For questions and support, contact [email protected]
