Community Guidelines

Monument Lab’s mission is to advance justice by reimagining monuments as places for belonging, learning, and healing.One of the ways it seeks accomplish this mission is by providing access to its website, together with forums, member-access areas, and other inactive areas of the website (collectively “Website User Areas”). These Community Guidelines are incorporated and made a part of Monument Lab’s Terms of Use.

1.1 Purpose of Monument Lab’s Community

Monument Lab believes that community is integral to its mission. Monument Lab provides opportunities for members of Monument Lab and other interested individuals to connect and communicate with one another in various ways, including through the Website User Areas defined in Monument Lab’s Online Privacy Policy in order to facilitate mutual learning, the sharing of ideas, and respectful discourse. Accordingly, users of the Website User Areas must agree to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the principles set forth in these community guidelines.

We also want to make sure that all of members and instructors feel safe and comfortable while using the Website User Areas. We have drafted these guidelines to ensure that people understand and follow the rules when participating in our online community and otherwise using our services.

1.2 Monument Lab’s Reviews

Although we do not routinely screen or monitor content provided by users, we may, in our sole discretion, remove or edit inappropriate content or activity reported to us. We may choose to suspend, disable, or terminate a user’s access to all or part of the Website to ensure that the Website User Areas are free from abusive or destructive content.

1.3 Hate Speech

Monument Lab prohibits and removes hate speech, which includes content that directly attacks people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity, disabilities, or diseases. People that promote hatred against these or other groups will not be allowed to utilize the Website User Areas.

1.4 Slander

Monument Lab prohibits slanderous speech, which includes misrepresentation of individuals, communities, institutions, or organizations, that has intentional or unintentional ability of causing harm. Slander is defined as the action of making a false statement which is not rooted in fact and is damaging to a person’s, community’s, or an organization’s reputation.

1.5 Prohibited Uses

You are prohibited from using Website User Areas to contribute language, share content, or convey ideas that:

  • Contain illegal content or promote illegal activities with the intent to commit such activities or to assist any unlawful act.
  • Contain credible threats of or organize acts of real-world violence. We do not allow content that creates a risk of physical injury or property damage, threatens people or public safety, or organizes or encourages harm.
  • Abuses or Harasses others. We encourage commentary about people and matters of public interest, but abusive or otherwise inappropriate content directed at private individuals is not allowed.
  • Violates intellectual property, privacy, or other rights. You are not permitted to share content that you do not have the right to share, claim content that you did not create as your own, or otherwise infringe or misappropriate someone else’s intellectual property or other rights. You must always attribute the use or quotation of others’ materials to the original copyright owner.
  • Spams others. Do not share irrelevant or inappropriate advertising, promotional, or solicitation content.
  • Otherwise violates the Monument Lab Terms of Use, available for review here.
  • Contain any material that is defamatory, obscene, indecent, abusive, offensive, harassing, violent, hateful, inflammatory, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Promote sexually explicit material, violence, or discrimination based race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity, disabilities, or diseases
  • Infringe any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, or other intellectual property or other rights of any other person.
  • Violate the legal rights (including the rights of publicity and privacy) of others or share any material that could give rise to any civil or criminal liability under applicable laws or regulations or that otherwise may be in conflict with these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
  • Would be likely to deceive any person.
  • Cause annoyance, inconvenience, or needless anxiety, or be likely to upset, embarrass, alarm, or annoy any other person.
  • Impersonate any person or misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person or organization.
  • Involve commercial activities or sales such as contests, sweepstakes, and other sales promotions, barter, or advertising.
  • Give the impression that they emanate from or are endorsed by us or any other person or entity, if this is not the case.
