Nekisha Durrett’s “Don’t Forget to Remember (Me)” is a commissioned monument at Bryn Mawr College arising from an exploration of exclusionary histories on campus. Durrett’s artwork is the culmination of Bryn Mawr College’s ARCH Project (Art Remediating Campus Histories), a five-year collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and alums, and was produced in partnership with Monument Lab.

More about the performers and activities:

  • Art-making and memory activity: The Bryn Mawr College Art Club will lead participants in crafting decorative frames, bracelets, and keychains as a way to remember someone special.

  • The Night Owls: Founded in 1989, the Bryn Mawr College Night Owls are the official a cappella group of Bryn Mawr College.

  • Lela Aisha Jones’ student dance ensemble: Directed and choreographed by Dr. Lela Aisha Jones, the Bryn Mawr Dance Program will offer an artistic ritual that affirms the existence and cultural orientations of Black people + people of the global majority at an institution that has struggled to amplify their profound and innovative contributions. In this performance, created specifically for this event, Bi-Co dance students, joined by Philadelphia movement and music artists, will contribute to the integration of Nekisha Durrett’s monument indoctrination as an ancestral pillar and beacon of generational transparency and remembrance. Performance + Artistic Contributions: Lola Peyrouse-Bremmer, Valencia Ngunjiri, Peaches Jones, Mawu Ama Ma’at Gora, Ayantae Cunningham, Kit Briggs, Amor Battle, Alex Shaw, and Youba Cissokho.
